The "shark powder," developed by effectively utilizing the unused resource of shark byproducts as a high-protein, high-functional powdered ingredient, is gaining attention as a substitute for fish meal. By using natural enzyme treatment to reduce amino acid odors, the protein content exceeds 80%. Feeding trials conducted at Kinki University Fisheries Research Institute showed favorable results in growth efficiency and weight gain with feed that replaced 25-75% of fish meal. Furthermore, the technology to micronize sharks, which were previously difficult to powder, has been successfully developed, improving nutrient absorption efficiency. This material serves as a new option to support sustainable aquaculture, balancing environmental impact reduction with high added value.
